National Law Journal Awards Mary Alexander with 2019 Trailblazer Award

The National Law Journal (NLJ) has honored Mary Alexander with the 2019 Plaintiff Trailblazer award. The journal recognized Mary’s “Pioneer Spirit” through her recent successful verdicts and her impressive legal background.

NLJ awarded Mary with this prestigious award because of her hardworking attitude and her determination to help others. Recently, she obtained a $21.4 million verdict in Contra Costa Superior Court for two brothers who died of cancer from the cancer-causing chemical benzene. Mary is also the lead counsel in the Ghost Ship warehouse fire civil trials, where she is representing 13 of the families herself. Also, notably, she was part of the legal team that fought against the Santa Clara County judge who ordered lead paint manufacturers to pay $1.15 billion to remove the lead in thousands of homes in California. The verdict was reduced to $400 million on appeal, and a lower court made a $400 million decision to eventually hold the lead paint makers responsible.

Today, Mary is still taking the tough cases that other California lawyers won’t. She said: “My career has focused on one thing: ensuring that those who have been harmed by the negligent, preventable actions of others get their day in court and get the answers, and justice, they deserve because someone who has been harmed is someone who should be helped.”
